My grandmother immigrated from Brno, today in the Czech republic, my grandfather out of northern Italy, both belonged to the Austo-Hungarian empire then.
Following my schooling at the Hotel Management School in Vienna I worked as a concierge at some 5* hotels in the city and about eight years ago I decided, that I could use more fresh air and became a tourist guide in Vienna.
Becoming a tourist guide in Vienna is a bit different. In contrast to many other countries, in Austria only licensed guides are allowed to do the job. To get that license, you have to take a years long course, which finishes with three quite difficult state exams, so you barely find any students working as a guide here, as they do in many other parts of the world.
I'm still in my 50s, but I have the strong feeling, that I will forget to update that information over the next few years.
